Washroom with urinals for long-range aircraft
DASELL’s “Washroom with Urinals” interior concept won the Crystal Cabin Award, presented at this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany.
According to a DASELL market study, up to 70 percent of passengers on long-range flights are male. The new sanitary compartment with smaller floor space takes this into account by employing urinals, providing space for up to four extra seats on a B747-400, for example. The reduction in overall weight is a fuel cost savings for the airlines with correspondingly lower CO2 emissions. “The passenger-centric design and concept once more underscores the technological leadership and innovative talent of our company,” said Arndt Schoenemann, Managing Director of DASELL Cabin Interior GmbH.
An international jury composed of reputable industry experts presented the Crystal Cabin Award to DASELL in the Industrial Design/Interior Concept category during the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2008 in Hamburg. The exhibit was one of the highlights of the expo and is being met with lively interest on the part of the airlines.
Also, one possible component of the solution is washroom-only, used as a dressing room, for instance. The passenger enters a small, pleasingly lit, “furnished” room with harmoniously matching colours and materials. Another advantage of the concept is that by providing urinals, lavatories are frequented less often, resulting in shorter waiting times for female passengers who find the sit-down toilets in better hygienic condition. This results in extra storage space and more window seats in the aircraft cabin.
